Saint Hubert’s Day

A memorial of the sanctification of Saint-Hubert.
Saint-Hubert is celebrated not on 30 May, the day of his death, but on 3 November, the day of his canonisation.

A ritual gathering is held in
the basilica every year to the accompaniment of the hunting horns of the Royal Forêt Saint-Hubert ensemble.

The bread and animal-blessing ceremony conducted during this celebration is believed to protect human beings and animals from rabies.

An art and crafts market and various activities take place throughout the day: the sounds of hunting horns, falconry displays, flag throwing, dog-training demonstrations. The rich and varied programme also includes a horse riding rally.
